Usual rule for me, make sure there are non-hot pepper alternatives and I'm good. Which means no Mexican.
For me the Irish looks good, but only sorta authentic.
Looking at the Yahoo Directory http://local.yahoo.com/results?stx=restaurants&csz=Gilroy%2C+CA Quick report of some of the may be more interesting. Note-I am looking at the Non Franchise Restaurants where I would probably eat at only.

Claddagh gets 5 stars. Good for beer instead of wine though. And they do have tvs which means noise.
Tassos Old House - 4 1/2 stars- Greek and Steaks. Another review spot says they have a bar, are romantic and good for groups.
JR Brewski's - 4 1/2 stars - good food, beer, wine list. But a Google search says they filed for bankruptcy in Dec 2005, so check first.

Unrated But Sounds Real Interesting is Wild Rose House of Taste. Google search found some interesting articles about the place.

OK, One exception this one is a franchise - Famous Dave's - 5 stars (only one review) well, because of the name. BBQ.

We do have more than a few folks with food alergies, so we do have to watch green peppers especially
